Get ready to make the most of this May half term with these exciting activities for the May half term!

1. Explore Local Parks and Gardens:

Take advantage of the beautiful weather and spend quality time with your children in the great outdoors. Visit local parks and gardens near you, where your kids can run around, play on the swings, have a picnic, or even feed the ducks. It's a wonderful way to enjoy nature and let your children burn off some energy.

Here are some amazing Parks and Gardens to visit in London:

Check out the Royal Gardens for their amazing play spaces for kids this half term. Kids will love the Diana Memorial Garden with its pirate ship, sensory trails, and more fun activities.

Kew Gardens is a magical place to visit with kids. We recommend booking a session in the Children's Garden. Your children will get to explore the elements in this enormous play space.

The adventure playground at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is free and a big hit for all ages. The park has water fountains outside the London Stadium. It's a great spot to cool off if we have some sunshine this half term.

2. Plan a Family Day Trip:

Why not plan a day trip to a nearby destination? Research kid-friendly attractions such as theme parks, zoos, or wildlife sanctuaries. These places offer a wide range of activities suitable for children of all ages. Be sure to check their websites for any special events or shows happening during the half term holiday in May.

Here are a few great day trips:

London Zoo- are celebrating 'Love Your Zoo' Week with themed talks, crafts, animal bingo, and competitions. Don't miss out on checking out their brand new habitat, the Secret Life of Reptiles and Amphibians.

Battersea Power Station via Thames Clipper- Getting the Thames Clipper is a great and cheap way of seeing London from the water. It is a great way to see the sights of London from a different perspective. From personal experience, it is a fun and exciting way to explore London.

Battersea Power Station is a new shopping and leisure destination that is worth the visit. The Lego Store in Battersea is turning 1 and will have free activities for families on May 25th and 26th. Head over to join the fun!

Check out a lovely local City Farm. SpitalFields City Farm is running a great May half term workshop- Farm 2 Fork. This is a cooking club for children aged 5-12, promoting a connection to food and nature through harvesting, cooking, and eating together. Free vegetarian meals provided.

Tickets are free but booking is recommended. Location is Kitchen Garden. Did you know you can hire out this incredible place for a party? Check it out here.

3. Join a Sports Camp or Class:

If your children are sports enthusiasts, consider enrolling them in a sports camp or class. Many sports centres and clubs offer specialised programs during school holidays. From soccer and tennis to swimming and gymnastics, there are plenty of options to choose from. It's a great way for your kids to learn new skills, make friends, and stay active during the break.

Better Gyms have clubs and centres across London with loads on offer for families. They offer school holiday clubs and activities for kids, including taster day sessions and weeklong courses.

Activities like swimming lessons, gymnastics, tennis, and more may be available in a gym near you. Find your closest centre here.

4. Discover Museums and Exhibitions:

Expand your children's knowledge and spark their curiosity by visiting local museums and exhibitions. Many museums have interactive exhibits designed specifically for kids, making learning fun and engaging. Most are free to visit but check to see if you do need to pre-book your free ticket in advance! We also suggest you check their schedules for any special exhibitions or workshops taking place during the May half term.

5. Fun Things to do at Home:

Educational Fun

With the weather starting to show signs that summer is just around the corner, now is a good time to get planting. Sunflower seeds, red kidney beans, and lettuce seeds are easy to find, affordable and easy to grow. They also offer a fun way to learn.

A top teacher tip is to grow seeds in a clear container so kids can see them sprout. This can spark curiosity and wonder in young learners as they watch the process happen.

Movie Night

Sometimes, a cosy family movie night is all you need to create lasting memories. Pick a selection of your kids' favourite movies, pop some popcorn, and snuggle up together on the sofa. It's a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend quality time together as a family.

We hope these ideas help you to have an action-packed and fun-filled May half term in 2024!
