Planning a party to include an inflatable activity can be an exciting and enjoyable experience. From bouncy castles to slides, party inflatables can provide hours of fun for both children and adults. However, there are several important factors to consider to ensure your event is both fun and safe. In this blog post, we will discuss in detail the key considerations when planning a party that includes inflatable hire, including indoor versus outdoor setups, weather and alternative provisions, venue policies, space requirements, timeframes, themes, safety guidance, supervision, and a crucial tip to keep in mind. So, let's dive in!

1. Indoor or Outdoor Setup:

Before starting your venue search, your first decision to make is whether the inflatable will be set up indoors or outdoors. Each option has its advantages and considerations. Let's look at these options in more detail:

Indoor setups

Advantages: The indoor setup provides protection from the elements, making them suitable for parties held during those colder, more unpredictable months.

Considerations: The key thing when considering an indoor setup is to ensure that the venue allows inflatables inside and has sufficient space to accommodate the chosen inflatable. When thinking about your room setup, you’ll need to account for space to leave shoes and for all your other activities on the day.

One of the great things about finding a kids party venue on Sharesy, is that our venues will indicate if you are allowed to bring in bouncy castles.

Outdoor setups

Advantages: The benefit of using an outdoor setups is that it offers a wide range of space options and allows for larger inflatables.

Considerations: You can’t always guarantee the weather, especially in the UK. It is a bit of a risk to have an outdoor event as it may be too hot, windy or wet! The other consideration for outdoor setups is making sure it is safe. It is crucial to secure the inflatable properly to prevent accidents caused by wind or other external factors. Make sure the inflatable is pegged down and consider using additional precautions such as sandbags or water weights. Your hiring company will be on hand to advise on safety matters and make sure you are set up securely.

2. Weather and Alternative Provisions:

When planning an outdoor inflatable party, the weather becomes a significant consideration. Unfavourable weather conditions such as rain, strong winds, or extreme heat can pose safety risks and potentially damage the inflatable. Therefore, it is essential to have alternative provisions in place, such as a backup indoor space or an alternative date. Luckily, at Sharesy many of our venues have the option of hiring both outdoor and indoor spaces or even to hire both in a bundle. The key consideration here is to make sure that the venue you have hired allows bouncy castles inside as well as outside and that the inflatable you have hired will fit inside as well. 3. Venue Policies:

Before finalising your party plans, check with the venue regarding their policies on inflatables. Some venues may have specific rules or restrictions in place, such as maximum weight limits, designated areas for inflatables, or additional insurance requirements. Being aware of these policies in advance will help you plan accordingly and avoid any last-minute surprises.

The venue will also want to see that your inflatables supplier has appropriate insurance in place and may want to see their documentation in advance of your event.

4. Space Requirements:

The space needed for both indoor and outdoor inflatable setups is a crucial consideration. You might also need to consider the size of the inflatable if you want to take it inside due to the weather conditions. Measure the available space and ensure it is sufficient for the chosen inflatable. You can also ask the venue if they have measurements for you to take to your inflatable hire company. Leave ample room around the inflatable, taking into account any potential hazards or obstacles. It is important to provide a safe and spacious environment for your guests to enjoy the inflatable without any restrictions or risks.

5. Booking in Advance:

Inflatable hire services can be in high demand, especially during peak party seasons. To secure your preferred inflatable, it is advisable to book well in advance. This allows you to choose from a wider selection and ensures that the inflatable will be available on the day of your event. Waiting until the last minute may result in limited availability and disappointment.

6. Themes and Designs:

One of the most exciting aspects of inflatable hire is the wide variety of themes and designs available. Whether you're planning a princess-themed party, a superhero extravaganza, or a tropical paradise, there is an inflatable to suit every theme. Explore different options and choose an inflatable that complements your party theme, creating a visually appealing and cohesive atmosphere.

7. Safety Guidance:

Ensuring the safety of your guests should be a top priority when planning an inflatable party. Both outdoor and indoor setups require specific safety precautions.

  • For outdoor setups, securely peg down the inflatable and regularly check for any loose or damaged parts.
  • For indoor setups, be mindful of trip hazards and ensure that the inflatable is positioned in a safe area away from any potential dangers.

Electrical safety is also crucial when using inflatables. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for proper electrical connections and ensure that all electrical equipment is in good working condition.

When booking an inflatable you can also check to see if they have PIPA certification. PIPA is an inspection scheme (supported by the HSE) set up by the inflatable play industry to ensure that inflatable play equipment conforms to recognised safety standards. PIPA is short for the ‘Professional Inflatable Play Association’.

Ask your bouncy castle hire company about their safety policies, certification, set up procedures and risk assessments.

8. Supervision:

Proper supervision is essential to maintain a safe environment during the inflatable party. Designate responsible individuals to supervise the children using the bouncy castle and ensure that they adhere to the safety guidelines. These supervisors should be knowledgeable about the emergency procedures and be able to handle any unexpected situations that may arise. The key things to consider are:

  • Number of children allowed on at one time
  • Shoes are removed
  • Ensuring safe bouncing so risks of accidents are minimised

Here's a tip that might not have crossed your mind - schedule the bouncing activities before serving the food. Bouncing on an inflatable immediately after eating may get messy! To avoid any unpleasant incidents, plan the bouncing session before the mealtime, allowing participants to enjoy the inflatable without any discomfort or potential health issues.

Finally, you may choose to have a qualified first aider on site, should there be any bumps or bruises.

So, to summarise, planning a party that includes inflatable hire can be a delightful and memorable experience. By considering the above recommendations, you can ensure a fun and safe event for all participants.
